Dam Mon, The Appeasement
South Vietnam
Written by Branly
Dam Mon is a tiny fishing village located around 80 kms North of Nha Trang, at the very end of Hon Gom peninsula. The amazing boulder field (meaning dozens of boulders is located north of the village...

How to get there

From Nha Trang, take a local bus until Tu Bong, then try to find a xe ôm to reach Dam Mon. A better and cooler way is to rent a motorbike in Nha Trang. From there, exit Nha Trang heading North, drive through Ninh Hoa, Van Gia, and Tu Bong. A few kilometres after Tu Bong, turn east to cross the Hon Gom peninsula. This road is surrounded by the sea; it’s an amazing drive. Dam Mon village is at the end of this peninsula.

Where to sleep?

The only hotel is at the end of the village; when the village road ends at the seaside, turn right and walk a bit on the beach. You will see a huge empty Soviet-style place (here we go, it’s the hotel).  Here, nobody speaks English but the place is truly serene and calm.

Bouldering

To reach the boulder field, follow the electric line. Boulders are on three hills (around 20 minutes walk). The majority of the problems are slabs and cracks.

Rock: average granite, there aren’t a lot of features.
Reception: sand, but a crash pad can be useful, some boulders are quiet high.

You can stay here for a few days, climbing and gazing over the South China Sea.

"Boulder /n./ place close to the ground to practice falling. When climbers aren't climbing, they like to sharpen their skills by bouldering on large rocks located in places frequented by impressionable tourists. Because bouldering is done without protection, the rule is never to climb higher than you'd like to fall. That is why so many climbers stand around discussing boulder problems instead of climbing them."
